Creme and Caramel with a hint of Copper

CREME AND CARAMEL WITH A HINT OF COPPER

Inevitably the seasons change and as they do they bring with them new colours and feelings.  When Summer leaves, its cool whites and bright primary colours give way to the beige, caramel, russets and coppers of Autumn. Next comes Winter with its cool greys and blacks, darkest of greens and moody blues with rich golds sometimes making a surprise appearance in the mix.  Spring then follows with is buttery yellows and pastels; minty green, rose pink and delicate powder blue.

With each seasons end we welcome the next, we are ready for the change. I love the way nature dances us through the colour wheel as if it senses our moods and desires;  when it starts to cool down it says “lets warm things up”.

And so as our Summer comes to a close that riot of colour is fading and as the weather cools the warm vanilla, cinnamon, biscuit  and chocolate shades take up residence not only in our gardens but our homes.  Frothy coffees, warm pastry pies with caramelised onions, baked cinnamon apples and nutty pumpkin soup take over where the raw bright fruits and salads have been before them.

On trend this season copper features heavily in the kitchen.   Resene Pearl Bush, a warm neutral with its orange undertones pairs beautifully with Copper accessories or go all out with Resene Copper Fire, a rich metallic brown, which is beautiful for splash backs or smaller accents such as hardware.

In my little kitchen this afternoon the delicate scents of vanilla and cinnamon, the sweet aroma of dates and caramel combined with the bitter dark blend of coffee are a perfect match to their layers of colour; as if nature has served you up a colour chart.  Peanut Butter Bites with a Caramel Cinnamon Latte served in a mixture of wood and copper is a perfect blend of those warm Autumn shades.
