THAT SHOP
“Have you heard about That new shop?” Those were the words that inspired Wendy Martin to open one of her very own. When she and her husband Simon moved into the property in rural Auckland two years ago she knew that one day the little outbuilding next to the house would become her own little cottage shop. After Simon had done the hard yards with the structural and electrical work, Wendy set about making the interior beautiful and the dream is now realised; That Shop is open for business.
Located in rural Dairy Flat, about a 10 minute drive north of Albany, That Shop is a picturesque shopping destination located at the end of a country lane; a gravel drive leads you to a black and white house and cottage with paddocks of sheep (each one has a name) who will greet you at the fence, as will the free range chickens.
That Shop has its own garden, with a wishing well, where Wendy intends to add some outdoor seating and offer her visitors a cup of tea and perhaps a sweet treat. The black door can only be described as charming with its central brass knocker and leadlights, flanked by white roses and a collection of rustic and vintage objects that sit and hang from the porch.
Inside you are not disappointed, small it is, but Wendy has maximised all the available space. Little touches like exposed beams and corrugated iron, combined with chandeliers pay testament to Wendy’s love of all things vintage and pretty, it is obvious she has the knack for styling as the shop is a visual feast!
Homemade soy candles, vintage homewares and handmade soaps are combined with a beautiful selection of Baby and Children’s clothing and Accessories; even the beautiful display dressers and other furniture are for sale. There are free range eggs, shortbread as well as seasonal fruit or vegetables from the farmlet.
I fell in love with this little piece of paradise and I’m sure you will too! That Shop is open at 15 Lower Jeffs Road, Dairy Flat. Hours leading up to Christmas are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 3pm or by arrangement. Phone 027 618 2067.
