When the Monochrome Girl Chose Colour

WHEN THE MONOCHROME GIRL CHOSE COLOUR

I have always been the monochrome girl.

It’s been my thing, my signature. People have paid me for it—for creating vignettes, stories, articles, even selling houses through that quiet, sophisticated palette everyone seems to crave.

That gentle calm. That considered restraint. That little whisper of I’ve got my life together.

And yet, here I am, preparing this house for the market and thinking the unthinkable:

Maybe this house needs some colour.

And so it started.

With a crown.

Thank you, Ottolenghi.

I spotted it in a mall—hardly a leisurely wander, because who has time for that—but I saw it and stopped dead. I need this, I thought immediately, with absolutely no idea how, why, or where it would work in my little grey house.

But home it came.

For a while it sat in its box, hidden away in a dark cupboard, until one day I decided: enough. I need that crown out, and I need it now.

So out it came—quirky, bold, slightly absurd, completely fabulous.

And when it came to finding the right place for it, well… when you know, you know.

It landed on the kitchen shelf and from there, it quietly changed everything.

It became the start of the colour journey.

A small rebellion. A bold little shift. Proof that colour didn’t have to mean chaos, and that sophistication didn’t have to mean staying safely inside a palette I’d long outgrown.

So how did I do it? How did I embrace colour without losing the calm, layered, elevated feel I’ve always loved?

Take a look.

No really—take a g o d d a m n look.

This is how.

So thank you, Ottolenghi. What began with one crown turned into months of tweaking, layering, choosing, spending, shifting… and arriving somewhere entirely new.

This is me now.

This is my little grey house, happier, braver, more alive.

And now she waits—wondering who will love her next, who will live within her walls, and who she might become when someone gives her the chance.

And the crown? Well, the crown is part of me now — part of this new version of me, of what makes me feel grounded, right, and calm. It is most definitely coming with me into my next adventure… and who knows what might be in store next.
