Its a small world

Some of us aren’t blessed with a home with large bedrooms, in fact most of the homes I frequent have dedicated that extra space to living areas leaving the bedrooms a modest size quite adequate for what they intended… a bed. And so often here we are trying to cram all manner of equipment into them and wonder why our sleep is less than enjoyable. After being asked to help with this tweens room after she took it

Be – Trayed

Tray NOUN a flat, shallow container with a raised rim, typically used for carrying food and drink, or for holding small items. Boring ADJECTIVE not interesting; tedious: Now lets take a tour of my little house and I can show you how to create something beautiful using that ‘uninteresting flat, shallow container with a raised rim’. My Occasional Table; Simple pickings from the garden contained in one of a grouping of vessels inside a round tray.  Tray from SE3 My Kitchen; fill a tray

Sunshine and Shadows

What a beautiful Spring day.  We’ve uncovered the outdoor furniture and BBQ and actually lunched outside! So as I am enjoying the sun and soaking up its vitamin D and all the other goodness we need a little of every day I am pondering the not so good effects of that same sun shining in on my new sofa. And, as I, (dare I say it), pull the shades to protect my soft furnishings I am saddened as all

Mezzanine Makeover

Our mezzanine is a small space in the centre of our second floor, it over looks our living area and is flanked by two bedrooms along with a small bathroom. It is currently filled with some unwanted and unloved furniture; but with its all day sun it is honestly one of my most favourite spots in the house, and not just mine; Westie the cat rarely moves from the general vicinity. So, time for a little attention;  the TGV ceiling has been

Five things your little house needs

Homes can sometimes feel a little empty or a little off.  Nothing is actually wrong but there may be just one item missing from your collection of treasures that would give that harmonious feel you crave. Cushions Yes, Yes, Yes, there is very little else one needs in life if they have a collection of good cushions!  Colour-happy or texture-savvy?  Cushions can deliver!  You can read all about my obsession with these little clouds of heaven here. Fossick

FOSSICK verb   rummage; search. I often forget about things I have bought or collected and put away. My attic is a treasure trove of hidden bits and bobs. And so when I get the urge to create something all I have to do is have a little fossick. This ‘back to nature’ themed vignette calls on a load of textural elements, simple succulents in various pots; twisty antlers and driftwood; a wee wooden bowl of shells and a little

Sunday Styling

I often talk about vignettes; a term usually reserved in the written world for a short description, a portrayal or a summary, think of a scene in a book described as such so as you can visualise it, and so in transferring that to the wonderful world of interiors think of it as a cluster of items that tell a story, just as the written vignette would. Your vignette could be a small cluster of objects on a shelf or table or it could

Plant love

PLANT LOVE One of my very first blog posts was on interior plants. I called it the next big thing – a challenge to join me on this resurgence of an old trend; a little nostalgia for those of you who remember the 80’s. Now a couple of years on and I don’t want to say I told you so but the humble plant is very much the current big thing! Not only have actual plants made a

Something to hang

SOMETHING TO HANG If you’ve been following me for a while you will know without hesitation that I love texture. For me texture is the icing on the cake. It brings the room together and is the final touch that a stylist will add once the ground work of your renovation is done. And its my favourite part! Without it your room will lack the balance and harmony needed to feel ‘complete’. So I’m on the search for a soft

Statement Art

I have often posted about creating walls but negative spaces are important too. Just because you have a blank space doesn’t mean you have to fill it. Gallery walls are a popular choice to fill up a wall and convey your personality, however a single statement piece can do the same. I have been there with a gallery wall but after a recent new paint job I paired it back to just two of my current favourites. Letting them
