Stairway to Heaven

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN Well maybe not heaven but its looking a whole lot better than it did pre-lockdown. These stairs were stripped of their carpet in a renovation that never got finished. Perhaps they were to be re-carpeted, perhaps they were going to be finished with a wood overlay, who knows, but here in lockdown my #bubblepartner and I are looking to finish off this mid-century reno the cheapest way possible using what we have, perhaps to prove

Lighting Solution

LIGHTING SOLUTION I am a little obsessed with lights, not the ceiling downlight variety, but pendants and lamps of all description. The hardest thing about hanging your pendant is the position you want it to hang is most likely NOT where the electrician has wired it and so enter looped lights.  Yes you can love your light cords, now available in a variety of pattern and colours they are something to be admired not hidden away as in days

My Christmas Nest

MY CHRISTMAS NEST If you have been following me for some time you will know I have embarked on a journey of living a little more simply.  Taking time to appreciate the beauty in simplicity and quality.  I have shunned the chain store market in search of a more sustainable lifestyle where perhaps less is more. And so to Christmas, in the spirit of giving and receiving gratefully and with a clear conscience  for my Lagom lifestyle I

Let there be light

LET THERE BE LIGHT When we bought our little cottage the thing that really stood out was the lack of lighting.  There were no pendants or ceiling lights, only wall fixtures, and the the light coming from those was limited.  When we renovated I was adamant that I wanted each space to have adequate sources of ambient, task and accent lighting. Ambient lighting is the rooms main source of light, so generally its your down lights or feature

Candle – Light

CANDLE-LIGHT At my little house we have quite a few power-cuts, the large trees combined with old-fashioned power lines mean when the wind starts to blow we start to plan. Seriously, the weekend we moved in we lost power for two days; not the best neighbourhood welcome! Anyway these power outages give me a very good excuse to buy very beautiful and of course very useful candle holders and ‘he who likes to save money’ can’t complain about

Light up my life

I found these lovelies in Freedom Furniture today, a little by accident but nevertheless found them… and brought a couple home.  They are simply beautiful; so beautiful in fact it would rude of me not to share it with you! Photography and Styling by My Little House I have long since coveted a Lee Broom Crystal Light Bulb and these are about as close as you are going to get, (though they are mere glass not crystal), and therefore

Champagne and Scents

An afternoon at the lovely Imo in Parnell with divine Raw Food, Champagne and the beautiful aroma, (and company), of Ashley and Co. A celebration of their reinvention – and just why did they need to reinvent this iconic NZ product I hear you ask.  They didn’t really, but I’m so glad they did. My go-to product for styling, and of course, gifting, has just got a little bit more beautiful and dare I say it, practical! And homeward bound with my

Sunshine and Shadows

What a beautiful Spring day.  We’ve uncovered the outdoor furniture and BBQ and actually lunched outside! So as I am enjoying the sun and soaking up its vitamin D and all the other goodness we need a little of every day I am pondering the not so good effects of that same sun shining in on my new sofa. And, as I, (dare I say it), pull the shades to protect my soft furnishings I am saddened as all

Windows Done Well

Nothing beats natural light and whatever your design style your little house needs windows. The way it floods in on those bright days or the dappled light that creates shade and shadow. Natural light has a positive affect on our mood the way artificial light can’t. So let the light in by using Roller Blinds, light weight sheers or floaty linen curtains and if you have heavy curtains draw them away from the windows onto adjacent blank wall spaces by

The perfect floor lamp

Well my living room has had a wee makeover, the walls are fresh and white again, the art wall has diminished from 9 prints to just two, the cushions have gone monochrome but my design – eye tells me something is missing. And so. enter the Rubi Lamp from Leitmotiv. I love the shadows it creates on the walls. Perfect, now I can sleep easy! Photography and styling by My Little House
