Lockdown DIY

I Heart Art

I HEART ART Lockdown meant we spent time staring at the same four walls wishing they were perhaps bigger, brighter, busier or quieter… I for one wished mine were a little more… interesting. Perhaps a structure to them to lift their flat and lifeless surface, give them strength and character. Of course I could paint them to give them colour, I could wallpaper them to give them pattern, I could even float some shelves to add texture but

Light at the end of the tunnel

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL Well I don’t know about you but I’m getting a little tired of staring at the same four walls. During these Lockdowns it can feel a little like they are closing in on you no matter how bright and white they may be. Though there is limited supply of non-necessity items during these enforced stay at home mandates having moved from a big house in the country to a small house

Lockdown Level 4 Take 2

LOCKDOWN LEVEL 4 TAKE 2 So here we are again, Staying Home and Staying Safe but for me this time I like to say Staying Home and Staying Sane! Don’t get me wrong, I love my home, I am a homebody, but when staying home is a must and not a maybe I struggle. One thing I noticed (as I languished in all this T I M E) is how much my plants have grown, not only in

Brass to Black

BRASS TO BLACK The door to my little house is paneled wood; quite unloved it’s surface was largely weathered and looked fairly out of place in my monochrome interior, though I did love the dignity of it; a little bit of contrast to my mostly flat surfaces. It got a coat of Black Semi-Gloss paint soon after I moved in though I hadn’t gotten around to changing the hardware; brass and also fairly weathered they needed an upgrade.

Stairway to Heaven

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN Well maybe not heaven but its looking a whole lot better than it did pre-lockdown. These stairs were stripped of their carpet in a renovation that never got finished. Perhaps they were to be re-carpeted, perhaps they were going to be finished with a wood overlay, who knows, but here in lockdown my #bubblepartner and I are looking to finish off this mid-century reno the cheapest way possible using what we have, perhaps to prove

PANTRY MAKEOVER

PANTRY MAKEOVER Is it just me or are the Lockdown days going super fast? I don’t mean the days in numbers, more that the days seem to speed by with very little achieved. I wonder how, I squeezed in an 8-9 hour work day as well as maintaining a social life and managing my home all by myself. I also feel quite exhausted these days even though I seem to be sleeping 9-10 hours per night. Maybe its

My Obsession with Chairs

MY OBSESSION WITH CHAIRS My obsession with chairs runs deep.  It started in my late teens when I had no money, I did however, own a 2-bedroom unit.  I begged, borrowed and stole four wooden chairs that were painted white.  I painted each one of these a different colour, (yes monochrome me); red, yellow, blue and green, (well it was the late 80’s/90’s).  Placed around an old Kauri table they looked incredibly cool – think ‘Friends’. So fast

TIME TO CLEAN THE WORLD… AND OUR HOMES

TIME TO CLEAN THE WORLD… AND OUR HOMES This little poem got me thinking… We are confined to our homes while we clean the world so why not use this time to get on top of those germs in our homes as well. The world got so busy, There were people all around. They left their germs behind them; In the air and on the ground. These germs grew bigger and stronger. They wanted to come and stay. They didn’t want to hurt

LOCKDOWN COUNTDOWN

LOCK DOWN COUNTDOWN Here we are, day 6 or is it day 7? I’m thinking the best way to live with this is to keep track. The ideas are unlimited, from something homemade to a monthly calendar to an Advent. I’ve searched my media library and come up with a few visual options… Lets Stay Home x

Time to Paint

TIME TO PAINT I’m not in my house during this Lockdown period, its unnerving, unsettling, I’m not the best at being a guest this I know so I’m making myself useful. Its not only time to paint but there is actually time to paint. Today is painting the exterior of this 1960’s bungalow. The colour choice was limited to what was here… the grey was bought at Christmas time and has been awaiting an opportunity to be opened,
