I often talk about vignettes; a term usually reserved in the written world for a short description, a portrayal or a summary, think of a scene in a book described as such so as you can visualise it, and so in transferring that to the wonderful world of interiors think of it as a cluster of items that tell a story, just as the written vignette would. Your vignette could be a small cluster of objects on a shelf or table or it could

Plant love

PLANT LOVE One of my very first blog posts was on interior plants. I called it the next big thing – a challenge to join me on this resurgence of an old trend; a little nostalgia for those of you who remember the 80’s. Now a couple of years on and I don’t want to say I told you so but the humble plant is very much the current big thing! Not only have actual plants made a

A Perfect Day

I’ve found the perfect calendar. Fashion Design is essentially a sister to Interior Design. And many a fashion label is moving into interiors. This classic yet simple calendar is a start; fashion illustrations to adorn your wall. Beautifully put together in three of my most favourite colours by Garance Dore, author, illustrator and photographer. Very French and very sophisticated and about to beautify the office of mylittlehouse, well come 2016 and it will be!   Need one too?  Here is the lovely link x

I love Stuff!

I love stuff; lots and lots of beautiful stuff, and when I go into homes I can see how much other people love stuff too. And while we could all do with a de-clutter sometimes getting rid of that precious stuff is just not going to happen. The “what ifs” and “but I might need it one day” come at me thick and fast and I too have to admit to a loft full of that stuff that I

Sunday Style

I love this look, a book shelf that’s not really a bookshelf. Some books are just too beautiful to hide. The shelves are just deep enough for some little trinkets to join your books. I purchased mine from Akia.  There is a smaller option if you have a tight space or want to mix up your sizes a bit. You can even paint them to match your wall colour.  Perfect! Of course you can use your picture ledges

I love hooks! Not only are they useful but they are also decorative. Check out this style… A double hook whammy! Easy to achieve. Sometimes a little oddity makes a room unique. Give it a go! Get a couple of hooks for under $20 each from Design Beat

The perfect floor lamp

Well my living room has had a wee makeover, the walls are fresh and white again, the art wall has diminished from 9 prints to just two, the cushions have gone monochrome but my design – eye tells me something is missing. And so. enter the Rubi Lamp from Leitmotiv. I love the shadows it creates on the walls. Perfect, now I can sleep easy! Photography and styling by My Little House

Okay so a cheap little DIY that looks fab and costs little! Take one Mocka Stool $34.95. Give it a light sand and prime. Choose your paint – you can use a test pot or what you have.  Paint the top or legs or just the rim, all look lovely. 10 minutes from plain to pretty! PS; they make a great beside table! x

Rug-Love

Come Summer and my little house is getting some wide-plank recycled TGV Flooring. Cant wait! And it means a little rug shopping is on the cards. I had thought to keep to more muted tones like the Armidillo and Co Twine Weave below but now I am leaning toward these more colourful and busy styles.  Don’t they just lift the room?! What do you think?

The Other Floor… part 2

So I’m not one that promotes painting over beautiful timber willy nilly but sometimes you just need a refresh; in our case the timber wasn’t exactly beautiful and we wanted a lighter and airy sense of space so away we went. Now its no easy task and not for the DIYers in you either, I mean we are talking some heavy duty sanding, priming and filling.  We didn’t want to see the knots and imperfections so we called in
