STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
Well maybe not heaven but its looking a whole lot better than it did pre-lockdown.
These stairs were stripped of their carpet in a renovation that never got finished. Perhaps they were to be re-carpeted, perhaps they were going to be finished with a wood overlay, who knows, but here in lockdown my #bubblepartner and I are looking to finish off this mid-century reno the cheapest way possible using what we have, perhaps to prove that it can be done, perhaps because who knows where we will be post lockdown.
A clean with some Sugar Soap and a light sand they were ready for some primer. I used an enamel one, stairs get a lot of wear so the stronger the base sealer the better.
Next comes the paint, Resene Diesel it wouldn’t be my first choice there is definitely some red undertones in this black, but lockdown DIY is limited to what you have or what you could get in the 24 hours before it commenced.
So thats the first coat down, I am going to do three, usually I would stop at two but 1, I have time and, 2, stairs get a lot of wear and tear.
At the top of the stairs there is a large print in black and white… ironically its of an Air NZ Plane in flight… not likely to be seen in the sky anytime soon! I also had this mid-century inspired light left over from a job a few years back… sometimes its better to hold onto these things rather than to sell for a fraction of what you paid for it. One day it will have a home… guaranteed. (Apologies for the lack of bulbs… well we are in lockdown).
Lets Stay Home x
