HOW TO SET UP A BAR CART
There is something ultimately sophisticated about a Bar Cart or Drinks Trolley. Popular in the mid-century they are finally making a comeback and they are better than ever. But don’t be daunted by the Pinterest and Instagram beauties, you too can have a perfectly styled cart simply and affordably.
The cart itself is a matter of preference, whether you love vintage, the glitz of a brass and glass trolley or a Designer Scandinavian piece, there is something out there with your name on it, so start the search keeping in mind your budget.
I chose this Normann Copenhagen design Block Side Table from Nest.co.uk I love its symmetry as well as its size and sturdiness, it was important that it could fit under a Paris Map Print on a nib wall between my Kitchen and Dining spaces, without protruding into the walkway area. It fits well with my design aesthetic and is a versatile little trolley that can revert to a bedside or living room side table if required.
To make your bar cart beautiful you need to remember the rules of vignette styling…
Start with an Anchor Piece; The large framed map of Paris provides the anchor for the bar cart itself.
Use odd numbers in your clusters or overall.
Vary sizes of the bottles and objects.
Vary textures, from the decanters to the cocktail shakers to the implements.
Ensure a commonality is present, of course all the items are related to the preparation of drinks but for me the cluster of vintage decanters add a touch of history, elegance and charm.
Add a touch of nature, whether a plant or a simple cutting, a wreath or floral posy.
To make your Bar Cart functional you need to have the following…
A selection of your favourite liquors.
Bottle openers, pouring spouts and sealers.
Mixing/Stirring spoons and other serving accesories.
Cocktail Shaker.
Decanters.
Optional extras (I tend to add these items when I have a specific event, like Christmas, to cater for rather than have them sitting there all the time)
A Wine Bucket
A Tray
Glassware
Non Alcoholic Choices
And there you have it. A simple addition of something that will add some charm and perhaps elegance to your little house.
