Some of us aren’t blessed with a home with large bedrooms, in fact most of the homes I frequent have dedicated that extra space to living areas leaving the bedrooms a modest size quite adequate for what they intended… a bed.
And so often here we are trying to cram all manner of equipment into them and wonder why our sleep is less than enjoyable.
After being asked to help with this tweens room after she took it over from her brother the main request from her was a bedside table with legs! Okay so easy, that is the perfect start with appropriate furniture for a small room!
Here are some tips and some before and after pics of the little, but, might I say, now gorgeous space created…
Keep furniture in smaller spaces lightweight
If you have a larger wardrobe get the experts in and have ALL your clothes in there not just the hanging ones.
Allocate extra space in the wardrobe for clever shelves for those extras.
Lighten up the walls. If you have a colour palette and want to stay with it go a couple of shades lighter for the smaller spaces.
Keep window dressings light and airy such as floaty voiles or linens or go with roller or roman blinds for a stream lined effect.
Apply wall shelves and boxes for bits and pieces that you cant bear to part with… yet
Use under the bed for storage.
Make sure your rug is the right size, a too small rug can make the space feel even smaller. Use round rugs to create the illusion of more space.
Before you move yourself into your new beautiful space – declutter!
