BRASS TO BLACK The door to my little house is paneled wood; quite unloved it’s surface was largely weathered and looked fairly out of place in my monochrome interior, though I did love the dignity of it; a little bit of contrast to my mostly flat surfaces. It got a coat of Black Semi-Gloss paint soon after I moved in though I hadn’t gotten around to changing the hardware; brass and also fairly weathered they needed an upgrade.
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN Well maybe not heaven but its looking a whole lot better than it did pre-lockdown. These stairs were stripped of their carpet in a renovation that never got finished. Perhaps they were to be re-carpeted, perhaps they were going to be finished with a wood overlay, who knows, but here in lockdown my #bubblepartner and I are looking to finish off this mid-century reno the cheapest way possible using what we have, perhaps to prove
PANTRY MAKEOVER Is it just me or are the Lockdown days going super fast? I don’t mean the days in numbers, more that the days seem to speed by with very little achieved. I wonder how, I squeezed in an 8-9 hour work day as well as maintaining a social life and managing my home all by myself. I also feel quite exhausted these days even though I seem to be sleeping 9-10 hours per night. Maybe its
MY OBSESSION WITH CHAIRS My obsession with chairs runs deep. It started in my late teens when I had no money, I did however, own a 2-bedroom unit. I begged, borrowed and stole four wooden chairs that were painted white. I painted each one of these a different colour, (yes monochrome me); red, yellow, blue and green, (well it was the late 80’s/90’s). Placed around an old Kauri table they looked incredibly cool – think ‘Friends’. So fast
TIME TO CLEAN THE WORLD… AND OUR HOMES This little poem got me thinking… We are confined to our homes while we clean the world so why not use this time to get on top of those germs in our homes as well. The world got so busy, There were people all around. They left their germs behind them; In the air and on the ground. These germs grew bigger and stronger. They wanted to come and stay. They didn’t want to hurt
LOCK DOWN COUNTDOWN Here we are, day 6 or is it day 7? I’m thinking the best way to live with this is to keep track. The ideas are unlimited, from something homemade to a monthly calendar to an Advent. I’ve searched my media library and come up with a few visual options… Lets Stay Home x
TIME TO PAINT I’m not in my house during this Lockdown period, its unnerving, unsettling, I’m not the best at being a guest this I know so I’m making myself useful. Its not only time to paint but there is actually time to paint. Today is painting the exterior of this 1960’s bungalow. The colour choice was limited to what was here… the grey was bought at Christmas time and has been awaiting an opportunity to be opened,
LETS STAY HOME A month ago things seemed normal, but they weren’t, slowly and steadily this strange virus was making its way around the world, sneaking through airports, invisible to the human eye, invisible to those of us who thought NZ was a safe-haven from things like this, things that threaten the existence of, well, us. It seems like life has become a movie that is playing out around you and somehow you have become the main character,
LOCKDOWN BANANA LOAF RECIPE I used to make Banana Bread/Cake or Muffins when the banana-lovers in my home were away or for some reason stopped eating them… in this new regime of ‘Staying Home’ I think taking a Banana and making it become so much more is pleasure for both the stomach and the mind. This is my favourite , its the quickest and easiest as well as the most moist I’ve ever made, and in the spirit
LIGHTING SOLUTION I am a little obsessed with lights, not the ceiling downlight variety, but pendants and lamps of all description. The hardest thing about hanging your pendant is the position you want it to hang is most likely NOT where the electrician has wired it and so enter looped lights. Yes you can love your light cords, now available in a variety of pattern and colours they are something to be admired not hidden away as in days
