The Other Floor… part 2

So I’m not one that promotes painting over beautiful timber willy nilly but sometimes you just need a refresh; in our case the timber wasn’t exactly beautiful and we wanted a lighter and airy sense of space so away we went.

Now its no easy task and not for the DIYers in you either, I mean we are talking some heavy duty sanding, priming and filling.  We didn’t want to see the knots and imperfections so we called in the pros and away they went.

Again my little house was in disarray but wow its worth it… even ‘he who likes to save money’ is happy to open his wallet wide!

At this point we hit a wee snag… the filler was leaching through the undercoat so another type of primer was applied.

I do think it is important when renovating to retain a little of the homes original features – so we kept the lower beams unpainted along with the stairs.  It breaks up the white a little and gives an original twist or quirk to an otherwise white interior; something that makes the home original to us.

The Scullery

What a difference this makes to the feeling of light and height. So happy with the result and the brilliant painters.  What next?  The floor – the carpet is coming up and wide plank recycled rimu is going down… I will keep you posted!

PS.  The ceiling colour is Resene Half Black White and the walls are Black White.
