My little house has a mixture of flat and pitched ceilings; all the flat ceilings are gibbed, plastered and painted and all the pitch are wood tongue and groove. Over the years I have had a love – hate relationship with these ceilings and finally the day arrived when I cried PAINT THEM WHITE! So the painter is booked and suddenly what do I see? A flood of exposed wooden beams and tongue and groove ceiling gracing the internet. Oh the conundrum – help me out!
Here is my living room – eye level view
Now take a look up – note the mix of ceiling finsihes
Well there is a little more to the story… the carpet is being lifted and recycled rimu wide plank TGV flooring is being laid. So the idea is that by painting the ceiling white in harmony with white walls the light will reflect and the new (old) rimu floors will take centre stage.
Now if this was a clients house I would not hesitate in recommending exactly what I am planning to do, but take a look at these beautiful ceilings and tell me I am not going crazy here!
And here are a few white painted ceilings – which one takes your fancy?
Okay so very different looks and I suppose both appeal to very different personalities and perhaps it is time for my floors to take the limelight instead of the ceiling. What do you think? x
