Five things your little house needs

Summer Lovin’

While we are all eagerly awaiting Summertime I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of The Warehouse Summer Home Collection. The launch was held at The Cloud on Aucklands waterfront and our tastebuds were teased with not only the collection and the glorious venue but with a delicious lunch from Allyson Gofton.  Lucky! And while the weather was dull the collection was most certainly not.  Both bold and cheerful and subtle and classy The Warehouse certainly captured the latest of trends.

Fossick

FOSSICK verb   rummage; search. I often forget about things I have bought or collected and put away. My attic is a treasure trove of hidden bits and bobs. And so when I get the urge to create something all I have to do is have a little fossick. This ‘back to nature’ themed vignette calls on a load of textural elements, simple succulents in various pots; twisty antlers and driftwood; a wee wooden bowl of shells and a little

Sunday Styling

I often talk about vignettes; a term usually reserved in the written world for a short description, a portrayal or a summary, think of a scene in a book described as such so as you can visualise it, and so in transferring that to the wonderful world of interiors think of it as a cluster of items that tell a story, just as the written vignette would. Your vignette could be a small cluster of objects on a shelf or table or it could

Plant love

PLANT LOVE One of my very first blog posts was on interior plants. I called it the next big thing – a challenge to join me on this resurgence of an old trend; a little nostalgia for those of you who remember the 80’s. Now a couple of years on and I don’t want to say I told you so but the humble plant is very much the current big thing! Not only have actual plants made a

A Perfect Day

I’ve found the perfect calendar. Fashion Design is essentially a sister to Interior Design. And many a fashion label is moving into interiors. This classic yet simple calendar is a start; fashion illustrations to adorn your wall. Beautifully put together in three of my most favourite colours by Garance Dore, author, illustrator and photographer. Very French and very sophisticated and about to beautify the office of mylittlehouse, well come 2016 and it will be!   Need one too?  Here is the lovely link x

Bedside Beauty

BEDSIDE BEAUTY I am searching for the perfect bedside table. Though it cant just be a table can it – we need to store things – important things like face creams. My client brief is simple; it needs to white and it needs to be different from a normal bedside. So I’ve narrowed it down. I wonder if Goldilocks had trouble with the bedsides during her foray into the little house in the woods? Anyway these are my pickings to date…

Something to hang

SOMETHING TO HANG If you’ve been following me for a while you will know without hesitation that I love texture. For me texture is the icing on the cake. It brings the room together and is the final touch that a stylist will add once the ground work of your renovation is done. And its my favourite part! Without it your room will lack the balance and harmony needed to feel ‘complete’. So I’m on the search for a soft

Statement Art

I have often posted about creating walls but negative spaces are important too. Just because you have a blank space doesn’t mean you have to fill it. Gallery walls are a popular choice to fill up a wall and convey your personality, however a single statement piece can do the same. I have been there with a gallery wall but after a recent new paint job I paired it back to just two of my current favourites. Letting them

Windows Done Well

Nothing beats natural light and whatever your design style your little house needs windows. The way it floods in on those bright days or the dappled light that creates shade and shadow. Natural light has a positive affect on our mood the way artificial light can’t. So let the light in by using Roller Blinds, light weight sheers or floaty linen curtains and if you have heavy curtains draw them away from the windows onto adjacent blank wall spaces by
