Mirror Mirror

I am loving a round mirror; the simple circle is just the thing for breaking up a dull corner, boring bathroom or above an entry table.  Imagine my delight to find a beautiful one reminiscent of mid-century styling, simple, sheer glamour with a timber frame in black, white or grey.  Of course one now adorns the wall in my mezzanine floor, though I’m not one for leaving things be, I think it will grace a few special spots in my

My Obsession with Chairs

I am slightly obsessed with chairs, in my time Ive had a few different styles gracing my dining table from Bentwood to Rattan to Ghost to Tolix to Eames… and I think Ive just found another love… these gorgeous chairs are designed by French engineer Jean Prouve.  Designed in 1934 and yes a little bit Schoolish but something about these appeals… Another style I could definaltey find a home for would be Hans Wegners Wishbone Chair, it made its debut a

Le Sac en Papier

Aptly called the paper bag these wee beauties are a styling essential.  Made from recycled paper in Paris no less they have made their mark all over the world and NZ is not exempt.  They are the perfect piece of typography, simple and functional and just a wee bit different. Scrunched up or straight, empty or full, white or brown they are something that simply fills an empty space while creating a little visual intérêt.  Here they are in my little

Pretty in Pink

When I was little my father used to call me Pinkie, at the time I never really knew why but now that I’m all grown up I can identify pink as my favourite colour even though its not highly visible in my wardrobe or my home.  It does bring back fond memories of my childhood and as my father passed away far too early the colour pink has that special place in my heart.  Its the colour of true

The Other Floor

My little house has a mixture of flat and pitched ceilings; all the flat ceilings are gibbed, plastered and painted and all the pitch are wood tongue and groove.  Over the years I have had a love – hate relationship with these ceilings and finally the day arrived when I cried PAINT THEM WHITE!  So the painter is booked and suddenly what do I see?  A flood of exposed wooden beams and tongue and groove ceiling gracing the internet.  Oh

Feelin’ hot hot hot

FEELIN’ HOT HOT HOT We are having an unbelievable summer here in NZ; temperatures are souring and while loving the continuous clear days I am beginning to wish it would cool down a little – NO!  I hear you say?  Well I suppose you are right we need to take it while we can; our weather is so unpredictable we could be wishing our way to an early winter! So how to cool down?  Keep hydrated, drink WATER, H20, AQUA!  Whatever you call

Summer Lovin’

We all have a favourite thing that happens seasonally in our gardens and the best thing about Summer at My Little House is the plum tree!  Seriously the best plums EVER!  Trouble is there is way too many all at once, so what to do… SO, I’ve made Plum Cake, Stewed Plums, Preserved Plums, Plum Jam, (do you know how much sugar goes into jam?!), and of course delivered a few bags around the neighbourhood! Still, nothing beats that

Beautiful Bedroom Makeover

Bedrooms should inspire feelings of serenity and calm, of peace and tranquillity.  A bedroom should be somewhere you gravitate towards when your body calls out for the restorative effects of sleep.  It should also reflect your personality; after all your most intimate possessions can be found in your bedroom! This beautiful bedroom makeover is inspired by this stunning Marianna print using black, grey and white with a touch of pink added as an accent to soften and warm it.  The

The heart of the home

Where do you find everyone at a party or gathering?  In the kitchen!  Just why everyone gravitates to the one space that really isn’t big enough is a mystery but its also a fact so making your kitchen gorgeous is not just a dream its a necessity. Kitchens and bathrooms can suck up most of a homes budget so getting a really good designer is key, you need to get the layout right so that when you come to have
