The Christmas Table

Every year Christmas at My Little House involves a new table setting.  The family arrive and the first thing they do is check out the theme, this involves a name place that they may take home as a memento of the evening.  This year I didn’t host the event, but my sister did a wonderful job keeping up the tradition.  Of course I couldn’t let a year go by without decorating my own Christmas table so on boxing

Beside the Bed

‘He who likes to save money’ got a little surprise when he ducked out to do a spot of Christmas shopping this weekend.  Returning with his sale bargains he found a distinct change of scenery next to his pillow! From this…  To this… Print from Nynne Rosenvinge, Plant; rescued and pruned from its too hot-spot in the dining room, Tray; from Ezy Buy, Watch; from Paper Plane, Specs; from Spec Savers (ha – where else!), After Shave; from

Christmas at My Little House

We all have different things that invoke memories of Christmas, some are from our childhood and some from the power of advertising.  These memories spark good feelings as well as little to do lists in your head.  Heres a few from My Little House.. Colour; even the most monochrome interiors can afford a little bit of colour at Christmas Gifts; when you were young the pleasure was in the receiving, as you age the pleasure comes from giving and for me,

The Countdown to Christmas

What to do this Saturday afternoon… Washing?  Ironing?  Nah… build an advent city for my little house! This little paper city from Yellow Dandy is absolutely gorgeous, and right up my alley! There are 24 different little houses and 3 cars to build.  It was easy to construct but a little time consuming, so if you are in a hurry leave it for another day.  The packaging says suitable for ages 4 + but the ex-Preschool teacher, combined with

Boys Boys Boys

If you have a teen boy you will understand this post!  Sometime around that 15th birthday your gorgeous boy moves out and a goat moves in!  Seriously, I don’t want to scare you but you have to know what is in store for you. 1) he eats and eats and eats… all those worries you had when he was little about his eating habits are gone, gone, gone.  Now your only worry is making sure you have enough food in the house! 2) he smells…

Little Lights

Fairy lights always make you smile don’t they?  Its such a dreary day here in Auckland I thought I’d have a rummage and get some going around my little house to brighten it up, after all its nearly Christmas… right?! You can get your copper or white fairy lights over at Collected.  I have both colours in plug in and battery operated; battery operated are great for those little spaces where you don’t have a plug but they

Red Red Wine

On my Colour Wheel journey so far I’ve covered Black and White, Green, Blue and Yellow.  So, maybe a little red to spice up your life? I’m not sure I can promise anything but red is the colour of energy and action, passion and desire, though I have to admit unless its Christmas the only time red features in my little house is in my wine glass!  Its a dominant colour and too much of it can cause us to

Window Seat Love

Perhaps its the sunshine we have been having of late, or maybe its my perpetual need to change things in my little house, whatever the reason, right now I am loving window seats! A place to sit awhile and read or just think could be just the ticket.  Truth is I am trying to relax a little more; something we all need to do… even just a few minutes a day in a comfy spot with some deep breathing is

Good things take time

With the Block NZ nearing an end you may take a look around your little house and wonder why you cant achieve such perfection in as many a weeks. Well here is a stylist secret; you cannot make a home in that time.  A home is a collection of things you love and cherish, each has its own story of how you acquired it and what it means to you.  The Block homes are being created to sell, once sold the new

White Out

WHITE OUT Ever wondered why when you are getting ready to change your interior walls the first colour that pops into your mind is white?  That’s because white marks new beginnings. Ralph Lauren said ‘In my own life and in my home, white is everywhere’ Who can argue with this iconic leader in fashion? White has infinite power in an interior; associated with light and it makes spaces appear bigger and brighter by the reflecting light.  You can use white in a
