Sunday Mornings

EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNINGS There is something special about Sundays. That lazy, slow day that never makes you feel guilty about being just that. I am amazed how many people still make their way out on Sundays, why not just stay home? This simple Coffee Guide from Sealoe and my Nespresso machine gives you a glimpse into Sundays at My Little House. Photography and Styling by My Little House

Music to my ears

MUSIC TO MY EARS Tivoli. I’ve admired these for such a long time; something practical that is also aesthetically pleasing is a rare find.  I’ve not had reason to take the plunge and purchase one, that is until, the day of the rain. I like open windows and unfortunately sometimes I forget to close them so when we had a day of heavy rain, the open window, above the stereo kind of necessitated my purchase.  I wasn’t too

Winter Flowers and Wandering Thoughts

Winter. The garden looks barren apart from these Winter Roses.  Helleborus.  I had forgotten I had planted them. It must have been a chance thing because I really know nothing about the gardening, I usually get it all wrong, over planting in haste looking for an instant garden, ending up with an overcrowded mess.  Yet there they were, perfect amongst the mulch laid by my husband who knows a fraction more than I! There must be a time we

My Little Office

MY LITTLE OFFICE Its strange working from home, yes I have to admit to occasionally still wearing PJ’s at lunch time whist at the computer and I have to admit to occasionally avoiding that same computer until at least lunch time. One of the most important things I have found is to create a space that is not only comfortable but that inspires you. I have a nook which is hidden behind some sliding doors with a built in desk,

Something from Nothing

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING I’m always looking for something.  Sadly, our beautiful country isn’t as blessed as some in the world with access to furniture.  Searching for specific items for projects really means you need to repurpose. So, when on the hunt for a bar cart and a day bed it naturally ends up with Trademe, that is unless I intend to pay huge shipping costs from our neighbouring countries. I missed on the day bed but I did

The Perfect Day

THE PERFECT DAY Every now and then you have the perfect day, right? Today was one for me. It started with a daily walk… and a little forage for my new vase… Then, a little work… styling up a bedroom space… Then, a little company for afternoon tea.  The problem these days is what to serve?  Almost everyone is sugar free.  But you have to love the internet because a quick search gave me this little gem… Chocolate

Its the little things

ITS THE LITTLE THINGS I remember this little manikin from Art Class.  Its how we learnt to draw figures. I spied him at Typo and now he has taken up residence at my little house. Lesson #1 Sometimes you just need to have a little break from the serious stuff and have a little fun! Lesson #2 You are never to old to play with dolls! Photography and Styling by My Little House

Here today Gone tomorrow

HERE TODAY GONE TOMORROW When we bought our little house it was a run down cottage with bronze aluminium joinery. With our first extension we matched the existing joinery so as not to have to replace each window and door, little did we know that a few years on we would be adding another extension and then a complete interior renovation meaning all but one of the windows would end up being replaced.  Had we known this we surely

Farewell Summer

FAREWELL SUMMER At the close of every summer, someone in our community has a little party. It’s a tradition and this year I’ve taken on the challenge with an afternoon tea. I’ve cut the last of the roses and stuffed them in glass vessels with whatever else I can find in the garden. The season is changing and there is little colour left. I finally resort to the herb garden, and beyond – the roadside gives me classic daisies

Its that time; feijoa time!

ITS THAT TIME; FEIJOA TIME Feijoas!  Those little oval green gems are usually in abundance about now.  We don’t have any trees at my little house but the area I live in believes in sharing their excess fare so I’ve picked up a bag which I am happy to enjoy with just a spoon as nature intended. They are not as big and perfect as those supermarket ones but they are organic!  I think I will be freezing some to use
