SUMMER ENTERTAINING There is something about summer that we New Zealanders embrace, not the muggy heat, not the mozzies and certainly not the unpredictable weather, but we throw off those BBQ covers and get inviting. Subtle and simple, we don’t possess any airs and graces its merely a casual “pop over and we will throw something on the barbie”. ITS A MOJITO KINDA DAY With the mint taking over the herb garden and the limes sitting idle on the tree its time to take action… Mojitos! I think if anything spells summer Mojitos do and today was a beautiful summers day. SWEET NOTHINGS I really wanted to try this Bounty Bar Recipe. I really, really wish I hadn’t! A QUIET NIGHT IN For me, there is nothing better than returning home after a busy day and not having to go out again. Yes I am a homebody; a quiet night in with some wine, some cheese and family in my little house, is as appealing as champagne on a yacht! SWEET LIKE CHOCOLATE There is nothing wrong with honey! I mean bees make the stuff for goodness sake. From the flowers to your table and nothing much in between. Chocolate, well there is quite a bit wrong with that, but not if you make it like this; 1/2 cup coconut oil 2 tbsp organic honey 1/4 cup cacao powder Melt everything gently in a saucepan whisking ingredients together. FAREWELL SUMMER At the close of every summer, someone in our community has a little party. It’s a tradition and this year I’ve taken on the challenge with an afternoon tea. I’ve cut the last of the roses and stuffed them in glass vessels with whatever else I can find in the garden. The season is changing and there is little colour left. I finally resort to the herb garden, and beyond – the roadside gives me classic daisies
