Styling 101 | Kitchens

Interior Styling | Kitchen STYLING 101 | KITCHENS I would love to be the owner of a home with 3.6m high ceilings, great feature windows with even greater architraves and original wooden flooring, but I’m not. We bought a tiny cottage and added (on a budget), added again (thankfully on a higher budget), but it’s still a fairly standard home, there are times when armed with my camera I wish it was bigger (or I was smaller) or that those windows weren’t

A Quiet Night in

Styling | Cheese Platter A QUIET NIGHT IN For me, there is nothing better than returning home after a busy day and not having to go out again.  Yes I am a homebody; a quiet night in with some wine, some cheese and family in my little house, is as appealing as champagne on a yacht! And so this gorgeous concrete platter from Fume, with a little halloumi, a pile of homemade Paleo crackers and of course a little coffee table styling makes for

Sweet like chocolate

Lifestyle | Chocolate treat SWEET LIKE CHOCOLATE There is nothing wrong with honey! I mean bees make the stuff for goodness sake. From the flowers to your table and nothing much in between. Chocolate, well there is quite a bit wrong with that, but not if you make it like this; 1/2 cup coconut oil 2 tbsp organic honey 1/4 cup cacao powder Melt everything gently in a saucepan whisking ingredients together.  Add a couple of tbsp of finely chopped nuts and/or dried fruit

The Perfect Day

chocolate tripe layer peanut slice THE PERFECT DAY Every now and then you have the perfect day, right? Today was one for me. It started with a daily walk… and a little forage for my new vase… Then, a little work… styling up a bedroom space… Then, a little company for afternoon tea.  The problem these days is what to serve?  Almost everyone is sugar free.  But you have to love the internet because a quick search gave me this little gem… Chocolate

Farewell Summer

farewell summer FAREWELL SUMMER At the close of every summer, someone in our community has a little party. It’s a tradition and this year I’ve taken on the challenge with an afternoon tea. I’ve cut the last of the roses and stuffed them in glass vessels with whatever else I can find in the garden. The season is changing and there is little colour left. I finally resort to the herb garden, and beyond – the roadside gives me classic daisies

Its that time; feijoa time!

feijoas3 ITS THAT TIME; FEIJOA TIME Feijoas!  Those little oval green gems are usually in abundance about now.  We don’t have any trees at my little house but the area I live in believes in sharing their excess fare so I’ve picked up a bag which I am happy to enjoy with just a spoon as nature intended. They are not as big and perfect as those supermarket ones but they are organic!  I think I will be freezing some to use

High Tea

high tea for mothers day HIGH TEA I love to plan a party.  Not a big one, just a gathering, to me it beats dining out where trying to talk to everyone is almost impossible.  No.  Leave the outings for couple-time and plan your gatherings at home. I’m not the most gifted of cooks but I can throw together some Scones with Jam and Cream and Club Sandwiches aren’t exactly difficult.  Coffee and Tea or perhaps a Gin and Tonic, either or, its a High Tea to be proud of.

Creme and Caramel with a hint of Copper

peanut butter balls CREME AND CARAMEL WITH A HINT OF COPPER Inevitably the seasons change and as they do they bring with them new colours and feelings.  When Summer leaves, its cool whites and bright primary colours give way to the beige, caramel, russets and coppers of Autumn. Next comes Winter with its cool greys and blacks, darkest of greens and moody blues with rich golds sometimes making a surprise appearance in the mix.  Spring then follows with is buttery yellows and pastels; minty

balls AFTERNOON DELIGHT Hands up if you’ve joined the hoards trying to give up sugar. Until now nothing seemed to really cut it. But I think I’ve found the answer… Chocolate Energy Balls. You know how one piece of chocolate is never enough? Well just one of these fills the gap in the afternoon, when that sugar craving is at its highest and it actually tastes like chocolate! A few minutes to make Afternoon tea at my little house –
